Delboy Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 I had a hen I called the English hen, come from Ypres a few years ago.It circled the loft and then landed on a house roof 50 yards up the street.I shouted and shouted it but it just looked at me.I said to the boy, run round and hunt it off the roof but there was a big dog in the garden and he couldny get at it.The English hen never went to any roof, it always was a great trapper so after sitting all night from when she came, around 7.25pm, I came to the conclusion it wasn't her and was a stray.I even sat in the dark looking at her, bewildered. At 04.45am I looked out the bedroom window to see if she was still there, yip, she was.I shouted her out the window and she flew right down onto the f kin trap. The air was blue and I called her for everything. She might have won the west section if trapped her normal way, instead she got a minor diploma.I called Bill Southward, the guy who bred her and he explained that her sire did the exact same after a long flight, he would sit on roof and sleep for hours, expletive remove. He should've told me before I sent her lol.
shugf2003 Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 I remember having my first chance at timimg it was for Wullie Gault who had to go away to work. Any way he basketed the young birds for the last race off the season think he sent five. He had a mealy cock who had won all the previous races i was so excited about catching and timing as my dad hadn't allowed me as yet only not to see a feather in race time. After a couple off days 4 returned all bar the mealy who was so consistent. Wullie gifted to me and dad all that returned plus a a 78 hen.I fancied a blue piet hen and sent it to Airdrie open only for it to lie out any she returned early next morning thats when i learned about being eggy she laid her seconed egg a mistake a would never make agian. She was set up for Averanches and once again it was my chance off my first timing as my mum and dad were going to a wedding. The day came only for me to be chasing up our loft buddy in the pub lol pigeon men.It statrted to go get dark and had been raining for a while when the piet hen hut the landing board i had to phone dad at the wedding and all and sundry came back to the hoose i took the clock to Airdrie to find it closed. Alas it was not to be it was once again out of race.cheers Shug

ALF Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 here's my wee bit of nostalgia for what it's worth,my first attempt at the gold cup with my single entry blue pied cock su o5 nw 6653 reims 2010 571 miles with the snfc, anyway after waiting all night the wife came in from her job as a carer at 10pm and shouted down the back to the lofts asking if i'd had anything to eat, after saying i hadn't she then went on to ask if i'd like to go with her down to the chippy,so having given up the ghost and thinking i wasn't going to get him home on the night we headed off being away for approx 10 minutes,on returning i told her i was just going down to lock up for the night and i'd be up in a minute, anyway on entering the garage i happened to glance at the ets clock and i nearly dropped the wee bugger was timed in at 10.11pm and after waiting all day and night and then being away for 10 mins and missing him coming home still brings a smile to my face and a feeling i'll never ever forget 1st fed 4th sect d 41st open absolute brilliant feeling so roll on this year starting with maidstone next weekMartin 2 yrs ago i sat for ages waiting on my blue hen fae Tours i sat there all night nad the next morning then left for 5 mins to go over the park for a bottle of wine and Alfie McGhie phoned to say he had seen her drop just as i got into the shop....expletive remove i thought but pleased to get her home after waiting so long then last yuear fae Alencon the mrs and me sat there fae before 4pm and i left about 7.20 that night to go tae the same shop and the mrs phoned me to say the the same doo had just landed and i sprinted across the park after getting a bottle of Sambuca and lo and behold it was the same hen i timed fae Tours 2 years in a row she had came and 2 yrs in a row i had missed her expletive remove but what a buzz i still got....lol
