greenlands Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 I need a bit of help with my hearing,I have a NHS hearing aid and to be honest it's rubbish.I had an audio examination yesterday and was advised that I had severe loss of hearing in both ears.Any of you lads or lasses out there point me in the right direction for a couple of good digital aids.I've looked on the internet and I'm more confused now than I was before. :emoticon-0138-thinking: PM me if you want. Thanks Lindsay.
calder boy Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Hi Lindsay Me and my wife are both profoundly deaf and like you we had normal aids but my sister who is deaf also hated her aids and was one of the first to get a cochlear implant and it is fantastic so many years later I got one and I meet my wife through the implant group so my advice to you is to go to your doctor and ask to be referred to hospital to see if you are compatible for one .It will make a difference to your life as it did ours Hope this helps Ian bennett

I honestly don't think private are much better than NHS. Having said that I reported a stray to an Irish fancier about 2 years ago who sells hearing aids privately. He could have helped but I don't remember his name.Try to find a lip reading class in your area which will help (40%) of conversation is lip readable. The people at the class will discuss their hearing problems and you might find some good advice there. Are the NHS not prepared to upgrade your existing aids? Have they offered a Cochlear Implant? The tubing on these needs to be changed about every 2 months and also checked for blockage/condensation at least weekly. The biggest hearing charity is the RNID but it has changed it's name recently. They sell equipment which can be used in conjunction with your hearing aids provided you switch to a loop setting. If you are registered deaf then you save the VAT on any purchases.I hope this gives you some more avenues to explore. You are correct I am also corn beef.
