Guest welshman Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 my father who used to race pigeons many years ago had a lot of success during the late 70,s and early 80,s.he used to fly with his brother who was my uncle, hence the name gingell bros.they enjoyed wins on the south road and north road.he tells me that he was reguarly featured in the racing pigeon, the racing pigeon gazzette and pictorial and was also in the results section of the squills annual.i would like to obtain copies of these magazines books etc for momento,s but i am unsure exactly what issues these articles are in.please could you all help me with some research by looking in your old copies of the racing pigeon etc to see if there is any mention of the partnership gingell bros.there are loads of copies on ebay but i am unsure which ones the articles are in.thank you paul gingell

Pity this is only coming up now as i got rid of 2 suitcases full to the brim with old R/P Gazettes and Pictorials just last year because they had gotten damp and were a bit "foosty" smelling.

Guest welshman Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 thank you all so much.i have been trying to get my father to remember what year it was but unfortunately his memory is not what it used to be.he,s 78 now he can remember how it was but can,t remember when it was.i have tracked down a few trophys and a framed photograph of a bird called the berwick surprise.i hope that there is a year on the photograph so that i can make some enquiries.my uncle passed away a few years ago and my auntie found them in the attic when she was clearing some old stuff.a stroke of good luck.
Guest welshman Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 here is the picture i mentioned in my last post.the birds name is berwick surprisering number-nu 68p28431he was 1st berwick new north road federation open with a velocity of 1669.5 ypm.bred and raced by gingell bros and presented to them by pontypool working mens club. year of issue is 1968
Guest welshman Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 it seems that my father could not remember an exact year because looking through the info i have just picked up he was quite consistent over a number of years.1968,1969,1972,1974 on the south rd.and quite recently in 1982(north road)1983(north road)1992(north road)1993(north road)and 1995(north road) with 1995 being his final year racing pigeons.but now i have been able to narrow it down a little and i will concentrating my searches on the years mentioned above. it seems that my father could not remember an exact year because looking through the info i have just picked up he was quite consistent over a number of years.1968,1969,1972,1974 on the south rd.and quite recently in 1982(north road)1983(north road)1992(north road)1993(north road)and 1995(north road) with 1995 being his final year racing pigeons.but now i have been able to narrow it down a little and i will concentrating my searches on the years mentioned above.thanks auntie marj
