does anyone know what they need to look for in a blood sample to see if someone has PFL, is it protien or something which shouldnt be there.....? also a standard chest x ray will only tell them so much so im led to believe, anyone know what breathing/lung tests they need to do for PFL as, if they are not made aware it could be this, ive found they wont automatically find it....

thanks in advance for any info.

It is the antibodies created by the body as an allergic response to a particular pigeon protein. I think you are right in respect of 'easily missed' if not aware what to look for - best to contact the Foundation.

If you think you have a problem mate, get it sorted sooner rather than later, they'll send you a test kit out,go see you're local nurse and she'll do the bloods and you return the kit.Got mine done a while ago came back OK. at 19. :animatedpigeons:

I have had pigeon lung many year ago, the medical symptoms are and can given flu like condition, coughing a lot, very difficult to breath in a situation like having a shower or

taking a walk in cold damp conditions, weight loss is another factor.

I had all the Xrays and lung function tests, loads of very strong anti bio-tics to no avail, the answer was a blood test sent to the labs at Liverpool

arranged by the Hospital.

I was then given inhalers one was Ventolin the other can't remember only it was a red spray bottle, cured my symptoms.

It's a most horrible condition, you will know if you have it.

I had PLF shortly after starting back in the doo's 4 years ago! had all the symptoms ie - flu like feeling at night when been in loft all day, loss of weight, very bad coughing and out of breath all the time !! had blood test taken at blackpool show which confirmed I had a high allergic reaction to pigeon protein (bloom) so I arranged to see a specialised docter in Aberdeen who performed more tests/scans (I thought he was defo going to tell me to get rid of the birds) and the out come was he was happy that I had contacted him early and the damage to my lungs was minimal and as long as I found a mask (also coat/hat) that I could wear in the loft at all times that works there was no reason to get rid of the birds !! so that's exactly what I did and I have had no problems since then whatsoever !! PS.He also stressed not to use the white paper masks as they were no use for pigeon bloom !!
