Wiley Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Phill, I toyed with the jealousy system as I toyed with many systems. The box system although they won, it wasn't as successful as normal widowhood. However the 3 section system, where the sections consisted of 2 sections with V perches and a middle section with nest boxes, was deployed by one of the best fanciers I know and was extremely successful.

I will await your reply ,and if anyone else has input i would be glad to hear from you thanks.
Wiley Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 No phil you have it muddled. Say you race 8 cocks, your middle compartment has 4 nest boxes, in both sections with v perches the cocks stay all week, they both are let out separated and trapped in there own v perch section. Friday evening afternoon is the only time they exercise together, and the trap into the middle compartment, where they have reared there young birds no hens are present on a Friday, they'll fight in the boxes but you must put them in separate baskets. There box is there domain. On a Saturday they trap to the middle section however the first cock home to his box goes in with the hen the later cock sees the cock and his hen for a few minutes and is Placed back to his section however the cock who came first gets his hen till late evening.
philg50 Posted April 5, 2013 Author Report Posted April 5, 2013 Bear with me Wiley yer dealing with a 40 year age gap ,so its 8 cocks paired on with 4 hens am i right ,in middle section then split after breeding ,infact you could move young with first lot o cocks to finish of .I have 12 boxes so could i see to 24 cocks and a dozen hens am i on track now ,i bet u wish u hadnt started this corespondence, thanks.
Wiley Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 The number doesn't matter as long as you have double the amount of cocks to hens. Cocks in section 1 paired and rear in middle section. Then placed in there v perch compartment. Then section 3 cocks paired to the hens in middle section, rear and placed back in section 3.
Guest Owen Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Sounds good in theory but this sort of system only gives you a short season. The cocks soon get wise to it and will not be motivated but become frustrated. I have never tried it on long races but I doubt if it will work too well on long hard slogs. At the end of the day there is only one way to find out. Try in and make your judgement on the results.
Wiley Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Owen this system wouldn't and doesn't work over 300 miles. But it last the full season with modifications. What I have said is the basics
philg50 Posted April 6, 2013 Author Report Posted April 6, 2013 As you say trial is the best proof and thanks for your help and comments ,i understand you now wiley and come the longer races in the future a tweek here an there might sort that out .In the distant past i did get a bird or twa out of Sartilly ,but one step at a time we will concentrate on 60mile from Brechin in a fortnight since iv been away from the doos for 10yr looking forward to it good luck to you both on your racing ,and thanks.
