it seems Cats are to blame ? We walk miles through the countryside here ,do cats do the same and travel over large areas for prey ? errr i think not

Yeah sad to be saying cats! Maybe PETA need to ban cats as its cruel on the wild birds!

Id have thought that it is obvious that cats kill many thousands of birds. They have the advantage of being able to hunt after dark on a full belly provided by their Owners. Birds at roost have no chance because they can not see them coming. Then there are the old favourites, the hawks and falcons. As long as they are able to feed on stray pigeons, racing pigeons and ferals they have the energy to take what ever wild birds they like. Also there are far too many magpies due to the fact that they are able to keep strong from the road kill. When the song birds have youngsters and eggs these horrible creatures kill and eat them at will. Sometimes these marauders are so well fed that they will just play with these baby birds and I have seen them left to die spread all over the place. Obviously there are a great deal of problems created by habitat loss and, in the case of birds like the House Sparrow, a serious decline in nesting sites. Over the last couple of years we have had Sparrows nesting out in the open in rain water shootings.

The RSPB are more interested in what they call their "Flagship Species" than working to help the, as they see it, the less attractive birds.

if you check the Peta website you will see they are actually against people letting house cats roam free and against neautring programs involving feral cats. They actually seem to be against any pet ownership too
