bibendium Posted February 14, 2013 Report Posted February 14, 2013 On Monday of this week North Ayrshire Council (or their contractors) tried to eradicate 100.s of feral pigeonswhich had over run a large office area above a disused pub in Irvine, this was done with some sort of gasThe office area has a large glass front, there are dead and dying pigeons lying inside these large glass windows horrible to see the suffering these birds have had to endure.I can understand the reasons behind the cull but to leave them suffering like this is cruel in the extreme.
TheHigg Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 this is not an acceptable or humane way to carry out a cull if this was a fancier doing this the spca would come down on us like a ton of bricks and we would be prosecuted i hope someone from the above organisation is readin this thread also i wonder how many birds with rings are among them is it not illegal to kill a bird that belongs to you or me
Pompey Mick Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 It is not illegal to kill so-called vermin, but it is illegal to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal whether it is vermin or not. Contact your local SPCA voicing your concerns and get this indiscriminate method of extermination outlawed, it is a disgrace such methods are allowed by the local council.
Guest Owen Posted February 15, 2013 Report Posted February 15, 2013 Pompey Mick is dead right. i think they should be reported to the RSPCA and the newspapers should be informed. If I had my way I would eradicate all stray and ferel pigeons because they provide a ready food supply for the BOP which props them up to do damage to racing pigeons. Wanton cruelty like you describe is not the way to treat any animal or bird regardless of whether it is called vermin or not. Nut Cases.
