1967 Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 The Beauvais race which was the first of the Scottish National events for 1964 had an unexpected culmination when the birds,due to be liberated on 20th June, in conjunction with those of the Up North Combine were released on 21st June at 5.45 am. and the Up North birds were once again held- over . With liberation in a North West wind, it was generally expected to be a hard race.However, the birds arrived in considerable numbers on the day of toss and John Mitchell's pigeon,a mealy (black splash)Cock SURP-59-745 of the Kirkpatrick family was timed at 8.45pm., making a velocity of1,012 and being the only bird to top the 1,000 y.p.m. mark , to be the winner of 1st Open,1st West section and £271. flying a distance of 520 miles. D Davidson and Son , of Rigside, at 492 miles, timed their pigeon Mealy Hen. SURP-60L-265,Rigside Alma,at 8.5 pm., to win 2nd Open 2nd West Section and £172, velocity998. The position of 3rd Open.and 1st South Section went to Matt Jamieson, of Annan, Whos pigeon arrived at 6.10 flying 446. miles and making a velocity of 994,to win £144
