Guest ConsettFlyer12 Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 Hello, I would like to know your opinions of paint on your lofts, what I have is a dark oak coating on the outside, and I put some on the inside for now, I've just started building my loft ready for the yb season so I can breed some more young to race in that loft, I think that the colour inside the loft is very dark. any opinions on how to do this? Thanks Scott
buster151 Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 Hi Scott I myself would paint the inside with a white emulsion or gloss if I used a gloss I would go for satin finish as not as bright when sun on it
THE FIFER Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 the best for inside is masonry paint, it dries quick has no smell and fills in cracks etc, it can also be used for the otside as well. a good sealant
aye ready Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 none of my lofts are painted inside,i've seen emulsion peeling in a lot of lofts and i've only saw gloss painting in one loft which i saw in photos and that was JL Roberts loft.better with bare wood imo lets your disinfectants etc soak in to the wood

Guest H@wkBait Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 the wood will breath fine wih emulsion and itt looks pretty lol
Guest geordiejen Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 i dont bother painting the loft, looks good at the start but when it gets soiled and i brush the walls with clorcarb it looks messy.best left bare wood i think.
THE FIFER Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 birds can get very sick sometimes if in new lofts unpainted, you can get strong fumes of some timber, its the same with shavings in baskets be careful what you use, and getting into drinkers ,
fred x Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 I think we all do the same, we build our lofts to our liking & forget what our pigeons may like, I like to paint the outside of the loft the way it looks nice for me & the people that have to look at it around me, The inside is for my pigeons, left in the natural wood.
harry h Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 If you decide to paint your loft, buy a packet of loft floor white put it into a bucket and stir in some water making it into a paste give it a good stir then just brush it on, might need 2 or 3 coats job done.
