Guest Sullivans Loft Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I was hopeing to start building a loft, & have just found out that I need to submit a full Planning appliction (HIGHLAND COUNCIL) £160.00 + £100.00 advertising !!!It seems because I own & run a boarding kennels/ cattery from my home Im classed as a commercial premises thus have to submit planning,So now I'm thinking I won't bother which is a shame. I thought th planning law's were being relaxed to help the economy I had a builder lined up for the block work + a jonier to build the loft, Now that's work they wont get !! I have no near neighbours as you can imagine being a Kennels business & the size of the loft I was hopeing to build was 18ft long X 8ft Wide. Any advice from fellow forum members will be gratefully received this seem's bonkers to me. Regards Sullivans Loft ( Or Not) :(
VMS Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Your not building a building to house livestock just building a shed. Then if at a later day you choose to keep pigeons party time

billt Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Hi Mate, When you say you had a builder lined up for the block-work was that just a base, I know Scottish laws are different to the rest of us but I would have thought a timber built loft of those dimensions wouldn't have required full planning

Guest Owen Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I am surprised that you don't just get on with it. I doubt if anyone can do much about a timber built sectional building. You will need to be careful not to obstruct anyone's view or obstruct the line of sight from a highway and you should be fine.Be nice to your neighbours for a couple of years and you can plan the next loft.
POMPY Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 new planning laws came into force on feb 6th this year , you will find you dont need any planning , google it to get more info.
1967 Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 as long as your loft is no higher than 6 1/2 feet 18 feet away from house (if you have someone living above you) 18 inches away from boundery fence so it can be maintained the crap they wanted me to go through was unreal i went above the lot to my local mp he looked into it for me thats what he came back with
