Snatch Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 Have a border terrier myself and it's great with the birds, lounges about when their bathing and the doos just peck round about it! It snoops about the loft too and the birds are very content. Very good dogs with children aswell.
Guest pigeongirl Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 I have 4 Jack Russell and all are great with the pigeons. Pigeons are brought up with them and never bother with them. No mice or rats round my lofts.

barnie Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 The Lakeland x Border I had took a while to train with the birds. After a while I could totally trust her and she just walked among them in and out the loft. Thing was she was so unpredictable around ANYTHING else. Didn't matter if it was 4 times her size, what a handful but great around the allotment for ratting/chasing cats.

border terrier lofts Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 Has anyone got an opinion on what is the best dogs for a pigeon fancier I am leaning towards a couple of Border Terriers.we have 2 border terriers, both go into lofts all day, never had any problems with them.both dogs were trained from pups and are very calm around the birds, junior goes through the bobwires at the same time as the birds.i would definitely recommend border terriers.
john cumming Posted October 12, 2012 Report Posted October 12, 2012 my chocolate lab tyson pretty much takes up residence in the loft when open and never bothers with the birds other than sticking his nose in the nest boxes to see if theres any eggs he can steel, usually resulting in him getting his nose batted with wings which soon sorts him out, 10 outa 10 for entertainment value haha john
