Blue Chequer Pied Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 AND WOT ? Thats him gone then!! I think he needs to take a long hard look in the mirror. Sport is dying and it isn't just BOP's doing damage. Paul.
Guest Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Quite right Paul the sport is being eaten away from within like a Cancer.
Guest strapper Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 there will always be the one that spoils it for the rest. we all have to treat one anothers problems with respect ,giving them disrespct at a time like that only shows others what that person is like.
just ask me Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 a few year ago back it was only my second old bird season had 16 17 widowhood cocks i had nearly half my team taken in two weeks before the racing season by bops that was hard to take at the time my head was spinning around with madness as u can imagine it made the wins and results i had that year all the better with this sport there are a lot of downs and it can be hard to take but i think when u get that cock or hen bursting his or her gut to get inside the loft or the one u got from the distance or the one u prepared for a certain race and he didn't let u down these are the ups sometimes they can be hard to see when your head is not in the right place over madness or a disappointed but belive me they are there stick with it because when these days come the bad day disappears and these are the days that u will remember
Guest chrisss Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 the secret is to never give up trying,i got my first birds in 1988 my daughter was born the same year,100% disabled with a massive heart problem,so i never got to race, "her highness" was in and out of great ormand street too much to keep a job never mind pigeons,so no racing :o ,then in 1991 i tried again, my daughter had to go in for her "big" op on her heart [14 hrs]so again the birds had to go,then in 2001 i tried again, got a team together, then in 2002 my daughter died, this time i kept the birds but no racing, thanks to the guys on this site i got some birds [the birds i had were too old to walk, never mind breed ;D ;D ;D]bred a few young ones and intended to race ,they got wiped out second toss [there were flying [in sight of me]for well over 1.5 hrs so i was gutted]that was last year taken care off, this year all ready to go 2nd hand loft about to be put up [it would have been my first "proper" loft, all the rest were converted garden sheds],then my mum dies,so i am about 3 months behind, that takes care of racing for this year [i must be getting used to this by now you would think ;D ;D ;D ;D]but there is always next year, the only bit of advise i can give this guy, is this if you are 100 % committed to racing your birds then "suck it in" and get ready for next year ,you have to be committed to the idea, [ i mean kamikaze committed] otherwise why bother it was the first of many heartbreaks i think you have to get used to it sorry

Guest strapper Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 i know wot its like to feel like chucking in the towel and finnishing. back in 2005-2006?..i had youngbirds come down with a resp problem, took them to a vet, which told me it looks like youve got ornithosis, hit me for 6 as my youngbirds and old birds have more ventillation than most lofts. my wife and i were feeling ill too and assumed this was because of catching it from the birds(which was highly likely). we had lenghty hospital check ups and my wife was bad with what we had...my head told me pigeons wasnt worth this . i was hurting but took the disscision to dispose of all my birds..y/bs o/bs and also all my stock. i had some top stockbirds from some good fanciers. 68 yb/s went...29 ob/s went and 15pairs of stock went.....i could have been a bad un and sold them to unsuspected fanciers but it wouldnt be me and i wouldnt want others to suffer my problems. so they were all disposed of by myself...something i dont want to do twice. the following months i had my hospital tests back stating that it wasnt orithosis my wife and i had and the tests from my birds stating that it wasnt the same either....gutted doesnt come close to what i felt. considering 3 out 4yrs previous to doing this i was averages winner and the last season was 2nd. so i decided that i wasnt gonna let this beat me so decided to start again and starting buying in new birds b4 xmas that same year. whilst on here a very kind gentleman offered me some birds to start back up which made the pain seem a little less ...his name was frank tasker! i recieved 12 birds from frank and ann and i am truly forever grateful for their kindness. a few years on and they have bred me some good birds and one was recently 15th fed from lilliers (france) for me in a funny race....also being 7th and 18th fed as a youngbird last year. so just when you believe all is looking dim ,bear it out and see how it feels a few months later...life surprises you and keeps you going.
stantheman Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 its the easy way out to give the birds up, back in 2004 i was really struggling healthwise with my back and was flying poorly so in haste decided to give up and i gave over half my birds away, and then in 2005 i decided to race the few birds i had left but on a laid back kind of way basically if i was having a bad day they just got fed and watered . they got trained as and when but i still enjoyed them end result i had my best season for years winning warks 2bird 3 races out of 3 over channel and getting really good results in the mnfc and nfc. This year am stuggling again healthwise but its the birds that keep me going although this year not flying well so moral of story is carry on and ENJOY the birds as they are a long time gone
