Missing Ets Ring

Has anyone had a bird arrive home minus its ETS ring.

 

My first bird from SNFC Leicester yesterday arrived spun round and landed on the very high house next doors roof and lay down in the "gutter" she didnt move for 5 minutes, eventually she got up and came down onto the Y/bird loft, she went in the trap...the ETS clock did not register. I went in picked her up and found that her ETS ring was missing.

 

As a precaution I have always had my normal clock set as a back-up, timed her in at 15.29 for 289 miles.

 

Later I saw she was favouring her life ring leg, how she lost her "Benzing ETS ring" is a mystery, I find these dont come off easily if they are clicked in.

 

She is walking normally today, see no evidence of bruising, etc.

 

Any thoughts on this appreciated, must admit I never check to see if ETS rings are still secure..will do in future.

mayybe bashed a wire and it has just hit the ring and not the leg and its clicked open and fell off?

a couple of times

 

1st time from a trainer my bird arrived

with the ring broken and hanging off and a broken leg

 

the second time the bird arrived in good time without its ring

 

also witnessed a couple of times broken rings lying in the bottom of training baskets

they can become brittle with age and are easily broken

also they can be very difficult to try and remove as they tend to snap off at the lug

not had one arrive home ,but have had 1 reported in Northumberland ,if race rubbered or ETS finder feeds and waters overnight takes them up the road to liberate .he phoned me cos there was neither on the bird ,well it was on her last Friday and secure ,i normally wipe life and ETS ring over before basket so know it was secure .
