Daisymay Posted August 16, 2012 Author Report Posted August 16, 2012 I saw the report on BBC news last night and went to bed angry, its hard to believe they are so blind. We don't have a chance do we.
Novice Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 We don't have a chance do we. Yes we have a chance. Stop racing youngsters in August and confine them to the loft. The raptors will decimate the songbirds as the situation will be completely out of balance if we remove the easy meals. The RSPB will then need to address the imbalance they have caused.

Think you would have a better chance if you delayed the young birds while the peregrine are in the nest and the easiest way to do it is to delay the rings being sent out from the unions until say April May to June is when the feeding frenzy starts and if we starve them in the nest August/September might be a bit easier.
WulDon Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 if every fancier bred 6 unrung latbreds, i'm sure you've heard the full story???

You probably have a point. Working at both ends would be even better but difficult to organise. There is no doubt that we have the power to change the situation but firstly we need to convince fanciers that they need to change. Some discussion and even guidance at union level would be a start.
b.massey Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Yip wuldon.... My 8 latebreds are in nest. Unrund and be ready for a job
Guest Owen Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 I doubt if the RSPB will change course for a very long time to come. They are an unelected body that do not have to answer to anyone. They have so much money that no-one will take them on and if they give advice on projects funded by the Government or even big Companies it is taken because it would cost fortunes to oppose them. The big battle is between the very rich Landowners and the RSPB both of whom are well outside any influence anybody like us. It worth remembering that when there was a recent attempt to change the law and have the House of Lords as an elected body it did not get off the ground. They do not think they are above the law, they know they are. Of course hunters, pigeon fanciers and game keepers can take gorilla actions which will have some affect but these sort of actions are so uncoordinated that they are usually brushed aside. I believe if push comes to shove the RSPB can and will be able to gain all the muscle they need from the Police and the Politicians. Right now they march onto private land to try to catch people out without a care in the World. If anyone else tried it they would be served with an injunction and stopped very quickly. If you doubt what I say ask the people who have been raided by them and you will see that they really do, do as they like. There will be no hope of claiming damages even when they have made a mistake and found nothing. After saying all this negative stuff I reckon that the answer to the problem is the General Public because the one thing that the RSPB fears most is that there supply on money becomes interrupted. To carry out gorilla war could have the wrong result because the RSPB will use any action of this sort to demonstrate that the people involved are nothing but thugs. As we all know they managed to get away with damning Pigeon Fanciers on a recent Countryfile Programme on TV. Regardless of the complaints and the arguments they still did a good job of planting the idea that Pigeon Fanciers are criminals who spend their time killing rare Birds of Prey. We all know that they are liars and cheats but we have to show the Public what a misguided bunch of power mad clowns they are.
