can someone tell me what purpose the battery serves considering the base unit is mains powered cos i haven't got a clue

I would think it's to keep the time correct just in case it is unplugged but don't quote me on it

Having thoughts again about buying an ETS the I read this on their website.So if I'm the only one in the club the club doesn't get a club system ??

Benzing will supply free of charge the LCD Clubsystem, the electronic combined version of the master timer and ringer plus a GPS satellite antenna to any registered pigeon club, provided five or more of its members purchase a Benzing G2 or M1 electronic pigeon timing system. The clubsystem is universal and compatible with all manufactured ETS clocks."
