Gentlemen, I urge anyone who is serious in the fight against the raptor population and the role of the RSPB to go and buy a copy of THE Observer Sunday newspaper today. There is an excellent article by Magnus Linklater on the RSPB and its completely irrational defence of birds of prey. The article can be found in the magazine section of the newspaper and it really is an eye opener. On the basis of "know your enemy" I for one will be holding on to this stuff for future reference.

A very interesting read highlights just how biased the RSPB is and also how poor they are at managing thier own reserves. The RSPB will obviously not listen to anyone or anything that contradicts it's own views. It's time the general public stopped piling money into what is fast becoming a grossly missmanaged organisation.

Took out some posts following a misunderstanding, so as not to detract from the thread and its attached article.

interesting article, well worth a read

it just proves what the vast majority know and independent bird experts have proved over many years investigations that the bop are a huge problem and getting worse annually , but the rspb when challenged about this stick their heads in the sand and dismiss the evedence from the experts in this field and with their financial clout come out with all sorts of other stories as to the decline of many many bird species in this country, everyone & everything is to blame except of course the raptors

I hate to admit to this but I am seriously pessimistic about going up against the RSPB.I have tried it in the past and have spoken at meetings of the Scottish Parliament committees on wildlife and at Dumfries and Galloway planning committee meetings and I have been amazed at the high powered experts and lawyers that the wealth of the RSPB can produce, all of whom can put up a very believable case against the poor pigeon fancier. After you have had several experiences of being patronised and rubbished it is difficult to keep going. The SHU has had many of the same experiences. However I wish the RPRA`s Raptor Alliance all success.

A few years back, I'd a similar experience complaining to BBC about showing a film about a peregrine cornering a pigeon in a quarry. Took the appeal as far as it could go within the BBC complaints system, but basically the only 'facts' which BBC would accept were those provided by RSPB 'because they are a respected organisation, and experts in the field'.
