In these hard times where a lot of people are finding it hard to live from one week to the next,British Gas have just stated that their pre-tax profits are up 23%.

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

How can they justify that. :emoticon-0138-thinking: :emoticon-0138-thinking: <_< <_<

I,m a gas engineer with our local authority, and am sickened at what tactics they use to dupe the innocent customer. Yes, they have a great advert on the tele at the moment, but who pays for it???? you the paying customer. Its high time the regulating authorities seen through all the fancy gimics and promises, and start to protect the customer and their work force instead of lining their own pockets. Why are companies allowed to make so high profits, in the present climate??? its a joke. my opinion only.

British gas appear at my next door neighbors to service their boiler (baxi 552 and pw3). Before they even looked at they said it was needing replaced?? elderly neighbor asked why? oh they are being replaced with a more up to date more efficient boiler, that one doesnt meet the governments criteria??? so he starts to throw some prices at the elderly tenant. £4500 for a new worscester 15ri, my neighbor was delighted she thought new boiler new radiators ect ect. But no, this was just for the boiler, no new radiators nothing. when they came in they ripped the old system out, never bothered to fill the annular space back up, just left the hole, told her to do it. never even changed the programmer. Now, this isnt the first time ive heard this, go onto the combustion chamber forum and see british gas get ripped apart from all directions. i feel for the workforce and the customers that are effected by these goings on, just cant believe they are getting away with it.

Got an email just there to say the figures showing a 23% rise in profits is against this time last year when profits had fell by over 50% selling energy at a loss for several months

IMO the real rot set in prior to deregulation of energy markets when Thatcher Government forced the nationalised gas & electricity companies to increase prices year on year by something like 3% above the annual inflation rate - to make them more attractive to potential buyers. I think that 3% above-inflation mark-up continued after privatisation - for all privatised industries, our annual rail fares increases here are certainly subject to it. Few folk get an annual pay rise to cover inflation and stand-still, never mind one that covers inflation with a wee bit added to make you slightly better off. Think we are getting worse off every year.

Thatcher did a huge amount of damage to Britain. She convinced people that profit was everything and ruined the way that most honest people got their living by the pit closures and closing down manufacturing. Now look at us, kids running the roads up to no good, foreign workers taking jobs because they are working at below minimum wage, very rich people getting away with not paying tax, no go areas in the cities that are not policed, and uncontrolled immigration which is destroying our health service and pensions.

The people and politicians who support all this should be publicly flogged. I thought that Mit Romney put it into perspective in his remarks to Camereon. We in Britain are in serious trouble and we need to sort these things out so that we can live decently again. I think that the Olympics are a wonderful opportunity to enjoy our sporting prowess but It is very definitely "Opium for the Masses".
