Guest peter4pm Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 I've noticed one of my cock Ghents does not seem to be able to fly to well over the last few weeks , he is feeding a youngbird , so im guessing its taking its toll on the bird , so im putting it down to lack of Calcium as im sure this is a sign when breeding ??No other symptoms , droppings are normal ect , just seems a bit tired out.
just ask me Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 if hes young there should not be a problem rearing young id say there a health issue which could be any number of things young birds getting grit should not have a problem with lack of calcium

Tony C Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 Theres something knocking about which affects one wing and its not one of the usual suspects, para etc. I know of 3 fanciers in my club that have had 2 or 3 pigeons each go down with this. There's been no answers to what the problem is forthcoming, my guess is that its a bacterial infection....... but thats all it is...... a guess. It would be good to hear if others have encountered this problem and a diagnosis if they've had one.

Guest peter4pm Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 hi peter lets us know if tablets work cheers stew i will mate ..i gave him half a tablet last night ..will give him another half probs tomorrow , dont want to overdose him lol as i purchased them from H&B so they might be rather high in dosage ect ...cheap as chips mind u .
Guest geordiejen Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 ive had a couple of young show racers go weak in the legs this year.i penned them up with half a calcium tablet and some harkers provit and they were atanding again within 3 or 4 days.one was even using its wings to move around.in my view it seemed to be lack of calcium and during the breeding season i buy matrix for them but usually i only buy the large bag of jondo grit,i think i will mix the matrix with jondo grit see if it stops.
Guest peter4pm Posted July 2, 2012 Report Posted July 2, 2012 Yea Geordie ...i noticed it a couple of weeks back ...when i thought to myself ...havent seen him out in the aviary for a while thats when i realised he wasn't flying to well ...this happened last year with a racer cock bird ...same thing ..was feeding young when it happened , gave him some calcium tabs and few days later he was beginning to fly again ...i just hope it works the same with this Ghent ....Good that you mention Matrix as ive not bought it in a good while ...need to buy myself a couple of tubs next time i get my feeding.
Guest peter4pm Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 ok heres an update on the bird ...for the past couple of days it was starting to improve after a couple of calcium tabs but is now not looking to good sitting puffed up tonight ...if its any worse tomorrow im just putting him in the bin save any further hassle
