Guest ghenty Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 I have a lot of cats near me in my terraced street but have come up with this idea. My garden is totally walled and the cats walk along the walls and down into gardens. If I was to place 2 or 3 foot of bamboo/willow screening all the way around the perimeter am I right in thinking the cats would not be able to climb up and over this if it was fairly loose, so it was a little flappy I suppose? This would increase the wall height aswell, they would not be alble to balance on the top of the screening and it would be a huge drop down the other side. I was then thinking of topping the screening with the Cactus spikes you can get. Any thoughts?

Guest Owen Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 I have used an electric fence unit for years now and it has brought me peace and quiet. The good thing is that the cat Owners are happy because there is no agro between them and me, the cats are happy because they are left alone, and I am happy because I never have to worry about some moggie attacking my pigeons. I wish I could find as good a solution to the BOP problem that worked as well.
Guest IB Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 I have removed some posts. Please ensure you post legal methods of keeping cats out of the garden. I tried a similar method to ghenty's idea and erected 2 metre high plastic mesh on top of a 2 metre high wooden fence. Much the same idea, too flimsy to support anything trying to climb over it.

yeboah Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 Put 2 rows of six inch nails near top of fence and ran two strands of fishing gut stopped them coming over ,before that when they did come in ma wee dog was within an inch o tearing its head off,the cat went verticle up a 9 foot hedge to escape certain death so that proved what height they are capable of if required .
greenlands Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 I put a post on a couple of week back about a cat coming into my garden between my stock loft and the back door.It would never come over the wall near the race lofts so I presume the ultra sonic device is doing its job.The cat only ever came into the garden at night as far as I know.My security light came on when the cat jumped onto the five foot wall so I used a plastic crow on the end of a came and placed it against the wall.Fingers crossed the security light has never came on since doing this.
