lenton1163 Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 is it ok to build a loft out of osb if it is going to covered with upvc cladding
Guest ghenty Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 I believe it's OK to just use OSB as long as it is treated, that's they way I am going and the way that Red Rose Starter Lofts are built.
OLDYELLOW Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Osb board if gets damp will act as a sponge better to use shutter board if going to cover it
geordie1234 Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Osb board if gets damp will act as a sponge better to use shutter board if going to cover itIf covered in upvc it should not get damp
OLDYELLOW Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Is shutter board the same as plywood?very similar but not as nicely finished and much cheaper
Tony C Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Much better to have wood that can breath, ply is far superior over OSB in this regard.
showman Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Basically your answer lies with the fitting of the PVC cladding ! If this is fitted correctly and properly sealed at the joints, OSB will be fine. If the PVC is not correct, there will be an ingress of water which will be trapped between PVC and sheeting and won't be able to dry away. If this were to be the case, it wouldn't matter what sheeting you used, they'll all rot over time, and in between times you'll have the inherant damp problems. OMO.
Guest ghenty Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Got any links for shutterboard at all? Can't find any online at all.
