hope they do not get the go ahead for the development, at least the local council is against it. and the majority of the local people i bet. can only describe the developer as a insensative money grabbing git :(

I think this community have suffered enough wrongs. They'd to pay out from the Aberfan Trust Funds to remove the unstable pit bings that swamped the school; they'd to fight 20? years to get their Fund re-imbursed by Government, and they'd to fight to have a planned motorway re-routed away from the village and the cemetery.

I was a teenager then. There was people came from all over Britain to help; the two I remember most were the two young Scots killed while hitch-hiking south on the A74?, trying to get to Aberfan.

read this story about the aberfan cemetry and the developers trying to gain permission to build houses next to the sacred ground...people opposing the building site say that this will disturb and break the tranquility of this famous cemetry.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/8303345.stm

I think you have to accept that there is little or no democracy left in Britain. Councillors are elected to represent the views of those who elected them. Then they accept the "Whip", and The Party dictates what they suport.

We have an Unelected Primeminister  who is a pawn of the Americans and there to do as Brussels says. And we are prepared to go along with it?

The only hope that the people of Aberfan have got is to tell these so called Councillors that if they don't do what they are elected to do, represent the electrate, they will be thrown out at the next election. Now that really gets their attention because they would miss all that money. 250:00 per week plus expenses on top of their salary, if they work, and, on top of their pensions or unemployment pay if they don't. In addition to the basic pay they will get extras for the Committees they sit on which can add up to a great deal of money.

So at the end of the day the electrate have the whip hand if they want to use it.

your Father was right. People came from all over the place to dig the slag away. I worked at Llanwern Steel Works when it was being built and men left their jobs to go to Aberfan. I was very proud to be Welsh and of my fellow Countrymen and Women at that time.

I heard on the News this morning that the Council Officials are against the Application. I hope that is right and that the Councillors do the right thing.

I would'nt hold my breath because, look what they did at Merthyr, they allowed an Open Cast Coal Operation to be be sited next to houses and a school. Goverment guidlines were that the Coal Operation should not be closer than 50 mts to houses. That was ignored.

So why are the Councillors who voted to suport such a monstosity still reaping in their goodies?

It makes you think.

owen..i think theres too much going on behind the scenes, and with the amount of money involved its very easy for back handers to be given, when there is money involved the vote is easily switched.

if the councilors vote for this then i can see there being very angry public on their backs.

its a case of not what or who you know...its a case of how much do you want!

you     should ask the counselors  if they are in favor of it, then  get rid of every one  who says maybe or yes,  thats the way,  i would go  on a issue like that :-/

As one of thousands that raised and gave much money  / resources etc. to that terrible disaster I feel it is an affront.

Sure it is purely for greed of money. Which once again how's that it has no scruples, and is insenative ... Not thoughtless because these despicable persons know full well what they are doing and with full intentions of their own ends.

There is after all very many sites and land where they can, indeed have already bought, to make money.

Yes like the good book says 'The 'LOVE' of money is the route of all evils'. Not as often misquote 'Money s the route of all evil'. They have money obviously, or the means to borrow it etc. to invest. They have no doubt other ventures and venues for making money, or other options, as money will entail this.... But obviously they have bought this at the so-called 'Right' price because of where it is and what the adjoining land means to so many people.

Indeed it is also legacy of the evil and corrupt bosses that put lives at risk in the interest of money. Money before lives as it could have and should have never happened. It shows that nothing has change, for it is certainly money orientated.

Not that I’m against free enterprise, just the thoughtless and insenative greed of those ‘Able’.

In a nut shell they have no reason whatsoever to use this site outside of extra gain. J.M.O
