Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 We are very happy with our race bird hatch,we have had 42 hatch from the 48 eggs that were laid, about half are rung[a few more than we had intended at the start]and at Blackpool we bought 40 Bricon chip rings so no doubt a few will be lost before racing starts but having said that the last 3 years we have lost very few training and off the loft so hopefully that will continue and we still have to pick up 4 young birds from 2 of the best flyers in the fed,2 from Mike Webb who practically wiped the board with nearly all the averages last year[particularily the Saintes race where he was first and second in the fed]] even though he is one of the longest flyers in the fed and 2 from friend Rick Geary who is never far away in any races[ and he is a very ruthless selector in his birds, anything that does not do well is not there for a second season], so hopefully these 4 might be useful, only 5 weeks till racing begins here and birds will be out next weekend for their first time since racing finished last year. :animatedpigeons:

podgy Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 we have had a great start to the breeding season all the 1st,round split off 2nd round eggs all chipping just hope the racing goes as good, all the best to every one, podgy
just ask me Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 full round nearly here odd nest with only one in it but am delighted so far
andy Burgess Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 i am a little dissapointed with 3 new pairs , one pair left eggs after 5 days sitting ? waiting for them to go down again .another pair have sat for 20 days , now left them ,un-hatched . even 1 of my own pairs have failed to hatch ,and have 2 yearling cocks and a hen from 4 bred from them last year out of 16 rung in the nest 4 are for other folk. so some will be coming from the race loft ,at least there will be more space in section 1 and less scraping out and food

KMCK Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 We have about 20 pairs or so racing and stock together and we had a first round that made it throught to the young bird end of 22 had a few that died in the nest think we flung about 10 or so in the bin so I feel a bit disappointed with the first round as I was looking for 35 but there's always a second round to come at last count think wee had about 25 eggs and 8 or so hatched
