Everybody will have lost a favourite at somepoint

one that springs to mind is "Freckles" She was 18th,12th and 7th open Rennes for Robert Cormack, attacked by a hawk in the garden. She survived the attack but Robert went into the loft the following morning to find her dead.

We had a blue hen SU01 NW 3628.She was the first pigeon that ever won a race when I went into partnership with my dad.She came back from a training toss in 2002 so badly injured she had to be put out of her misery.

I was young at the time so was moping about for days  Still have one of her primary flights and the rubber ring she was wearing from the race prior to the toss in a folder somewhere along with her red ticket.

Got to take the rough with the smooth as they say

Remember a cheq pied hen i owned when racing to my parents address in wamphray, the loft was just yards from the main london to glasgow west coast line ,when a southbound express passed the house if the birds were startled by anything they would take of and fly directly under the wires and in front of the train they only then had seconds to avoid being killed, the pied hen had won as a 2yo 2nd section 11 open gold cup against approx 7500 birds ,then only weeks away from the race the following year was killed along with a few others by an express train can still remember picking up the birds remains from the railway to this day ,that was a hard pill to swallow :emoticon-0156-rain:

can imagine there wouldnae be much in the way of remains after that :(

My dad used to work clearing the track for the railway. If something was hit(sheep, cow etc) they'd find it strung out all over the place. There was a suicide once and they couldnae find all the parts,a week later my dad spotted the guys leg up a tree near the side of the track.

Your right there is nothing survives an express ,there were many cats killed by them also as they seemed to have a terrible habit of crossing the line where there was a doo loft, once bought my late mother an ornament rack for the living room but had to take it of the wall as we could not keep things from falling of when an express passed by,we could sleep at night never hearing the trains as we were used to it but if someone was staying over for a night they s-- themselves when the southbound passed the house

ANYMORE GOOD STORIES FOLKS LIKE HEARING ABOUT THOSE GOODBIRDS./// :emoticon-0167-beer:

Once upon a time the house I bought was a superb location for Doos with a lovely large garden and no neighbours on all sides however at the back of the loft was a railway shunting line used mainly by the wagons loaded with coal which had to be brought up the hill from Kinniel Pit down in Boness where they sat untill a powerful diesel took them god knows where.

In 1974 I reared a beautiful team of 60 youngsters of which were going to win all before them however on their first time on top of the loft one or two went and sat on top of the coal wagons and after a little while the 60 were all sitting with some picking about the coal. Aye they must have thought this is good fun when a large deisel coupled up to the wagons about 100 yards up the line and off they all went on a mystery tour. The only thing missing was the bloody bunting and I never saw hide or feather from any of them again.
