shweet Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 Can anyone tell me where I can get the live vaccine for paratyphoid and what is its name please. Why is it better than the vaccine that is not live ? I was told a couple of years ago but cant remember the answer. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks Wayne.

Live vaccine is not authorised for sale or for use here in UK. The reason for that (as far as I understand) is 'live anything' is much more dangerous to use than 'dead anything' as the pigeon sheds the live organism into the environment in its droppings. Might as well add that Parastop is not authorised for sale or for use here in UK either.
Guest geordiejen Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 cant understand why you would want live vaccine.surely vaccinating the birds is for purpose of the immune system to kick in and hold up its natural defences.dont understand how injecting live vaccine works but on hinesight it sounds to me that live vaccine could be very dangerous if a high injection is administered.

shweet Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Ok, how does the dead vaccine work then ?
Guest IB Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Ok, how does the dead vaccine work then ? The body’s immune system (any body) is based on it being able to recognise bits that are a part of it and belong in the body - ‘itself’, from bits that don’t - ‘not itself’. It then needs to recognise which of those bits that are ‘not itself’ (1) can be allowed to stay because they are beneficial to its own health, and the best examples are the countless billions of ‘good bacteria’ in the gut that are tolerated there (and nowhere else) because they aid digestion & immunity. (2) Need to be destroyed as threats to its own health. Basically the body knows everything that is in it, including what is beneficial to it (which it will allow to survive and multiply) and what is a health hazard - which it will attack & destroy using a variety of weapons produced by its immune system. How it does that isn’t fully understood, but it is based on chemical ‘signalling’, where every organism has its own unique genetic chemical ‘shape’ & ‘smell’. The problems are (1) that some pathogenic organisms are very good mimics of both non-pathogenic ones, and of the body itself, and (2) the body defence levels start at lowest level - say Level 1 on day 1 - and don’t reach the highest level - say Level 6 until around 21 days later - and it is this Level 6 that produces the immune memory and the antibodies which will remain to fight those specific pathogenic organisms in the future, and prevent them from causing disease. So vaccination is the deliberate introduction of pathogenic organisms unique genetic chemical shape & ‘smell’ into the body, without bringing on the full disease, to stimulate an immune response Level 6. It still takes about 3 weeks to do this, but the body will now be fully equipped to meet any future attack with a Level 6 response from day 1. Dead vaccines contain two separate parts both of which which stimulate the immune system. The dead organism is the genetic ‘shape’ while the chemical ‘smell’ is provided by a chemical additive called an adjuvant, which ‘mimics’ parts of the dead organism and stimulates a stronger immune response than the dead organism could do on its own.
