Normal practice is for the current officials to go over balance sheet, last years AGM minutes, and any business arising from these will then be discussed. When that has been attended to all officials vacate their positions and votes are taken to either re-instate them or vote in new officials. AFTER this is done new membership applications will be dealt with and either accepted or rejected. IF the President/Chairman's position is NOT taken up by a current member at the start of the meeting any new member wishing to take on the responsibility of this role could be voted onto the management committee. However if the guy you don't want to work with puts his hand up for the position when the officials are elected at the start of the meeting then there is little you can do to prevent him taking the post, thus leaving no position for the new guy to take so you would HAVE to work with the other guy who is not to your liking.

In the event of the latter i suggest you work/deal with the man and keep it as a strictly business relationship with him for the year ahead then if the members vote the new man in at the next AGM you can work with him in 2013 season.

Could you let us know if your club is under RPRA rules or SHU rules as it could make a big diferance.

Under RPRA rules applications are not accepted at the AGM they are taken at a ordinary meeting usually held after the AGM, whereas election of officers takes place at the AGM.

we are under the rpra, can the said person just take over as chairman if he gets no votes. the club has be run very well, but the sec at the mo wish to step down, as his son plays a lot of footie, and has be ask to train with at league team. the sec at the mo would take up the vice sec job. but alarm bell have set in with the said person. if he gets no vote can we leave this open until the new members is vote in

In Lanarkshire, proposals for the officers need to be in 6 WEEKS before the AGM, their proposal has to come from the members CLUB and not ordinary individual members.

Of course if the Fed are struggling to fill the positions we can, by agreement of those present, take a proposal from the body of the hall and elect officials this way.

The 6 week rule for our Fed is so that the name of the proposed member/s is put on the meeting's Agenda when sent out. This gives everyone an opportunity to consider new proposals before the meeting takes place.

Of course not he needs to be proposed and seconded, even then a vote as to be taken by the rest of the members and he only takes over if the majority votes for him.If the post is not filled at the Agm then another meeting can be called at a later date to vote someone in,so if the new member is proposed and seconded and voted in at that meeting thats fine.

I believe you are talking about a fed Agm here not a club AGM as Peter66 is,are you under RPRA rules.

i think the safest way would be for the chairman to stay on as chairman for now untill the new member is voted in,then give up the post at a later meeting, for a new chairman to be voted in.
