Guest geordiejen Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 does anyone know the timing of a life cicle of a lice?the reason im asking is that although their are no actual lice on my birds they were treated 6 weeks ago and at a show yesterday the judge pointed out lots of wee black dots on the feather quill in the flights.i take it since they are black and probably dead i dont know how to shift them.any ideas?

I also just give the drop on back of neck that clears it up
Guest geordiejen Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 yeah mate ive got the duranitex but as the eggs are lodged in the feather quill i dont know how to get them out lol. give all youngsters as they are maturing in the nest a drop on the back of the neck then in october i treat all the birds with it.just these dead eggs i cannot get out mate.
racingsprint Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 my rollers get vinegar n there bath hve had no probs wi lice or mite fr two years

THE FIFER Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 some good strong garlic water in the bath m8,
Guest geordiejen Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 i will give them another spot on the back of the neck.does anyone know by any chance if this stuff could be less effective if its been in frozen conditions dont know if it does freeze but maybe its not as powerful as it should be.i will try bathing him in some strong garlic to se if they can be moved.

Unless the bird is being bitten, systemic drops like ivermectin aren't as efficient at killing feather browsers as a dip, spray or 'medicated' bathwater.

Guest IB Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 ivermeicin is watered down ivomec which will kill all mites Ivermectin is the active ingredient in ivomec. It is a systemic insecticide which means it enters the birds blood & body tissues. To kill a mite, the mite needs to bite into those 'medicated' body tissues, or suck the birds blood - when the ivermectin is still active, within 48 hours. There is nothing live on a feather, no blood, no living tissue. Dipping, spraying or bathing in 'medicated' bathwater is a much more efficient and reliable way of killing feather browsers. They are killed immediately, on contact.

Guest geordiejen Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 i know the stuff i have is not working i checked all of the birds tonight and most are clear but they probably didnt have much in the first place but several of them are crawling.need to buy a new one and keep it in the house to stop freezing or low temperatures must make it less effective.
victorious Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 ivomec does work but get it off your vet they will measure it out for u its good stuff highly reccomended use every 6 months and you will never see a parasite on your birds but keep it in the house not the loft.
racingsprint Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 ivomec dosent kill lice as lice feeds on bloom it dosent bite the bird like a mite does

Guest geordiejen Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 some good strong garlic water in the bath m8,hi mate what strength of garlic would i put in the water to get this effective?should i boil a whole bulb then blend it until it looks like ginger beer?
