I believe the moult starts on the wing flight feathers after the laying of the second round of eggs, could you please tell me how much time between the laying of the second round of eggs and the first flight feather being thrown and how long does the new feather take to grow, and when the first flight feather has grown how does this effect the growth of the second flight.

Hi Bill, You're right regarding dropping first flight after laying second round eggs, the rest is a bit variable regarding temperature and different strains , some will not drop the next flight until the first has grown fully but others will drop the next flight before therefore leaving a gap, Hope this helps, Bill

Hi Bill, do you know when the flight begins to moult after layng the second round, example the moment they lay or maybe two weeks later if you see what I mean, also does the moult if all goes well carry on in the same manner with each new feather taking about a week to grow or does this vary as well.

I think the dropping of the first flight after the second round eggs will vary a little depending on different strains, temperature etc. Also it is nearly 6 months between the fall of the first flight and the last
