here is part of a write up on strepptococcus by dr colin walker a well known pigeon vet.

he describes the droppings from having this as diarrhoea and not a watery dropping with a stick like dropping in it...which the thread starter described it as.

In some infected pigeons, the organism will localise in the respiratory system, leading to red watery eyes, a nasal discharge and difficulty breathing. In other pigeons, the liver can be affected, leading to a green diarrhoea and weight loss. In some pigeons, the heart itself may become infected. If these pigeons survive, they may develop long-term heart problems, leading to a chronic shortage of breath

Think you really need to get the birds seen by a vet to get a proper diagnosis. Streptococcus is a normal gut inhabitant so a positive result in a droppings test means nothing, its when it gets across the gut wall into the body that it causes problems, so its another test to prove / disprove infection. Also, if it is paramyxo, expect a visit from the man from the ministry, the vet is duty bound to notify them. Hope its resolved quickly.

yes m8 read it but heres a pic of the actual strepptococus and its not the droppings

streptococcus:

An acute or even peracute death in pigeons has been attributed to Streptococcus gallolyticus (previously known as S bovis).34 The primary sign in most birds is inability to fly (or deviant flying behavior) and dropped wings. Others have green, foamy droppings and sometimes loss of appetite, polyuria, polydipsia, and swollen abdomen. Birds that have acute disease presents with septicemia. Old and young birds are affected; young birds have pericarditis and old birds often have abnormal yellowing of the breast muscles. A chronic lameness has also been reported.

Nearly 40% of all pigeons carry streptococci in the gastrointestinal tract without clinical signs. It may be part of normal flora but can be a facultative pathogen. Clinical signs are usually not present if confined to the gastrointestinal tract. The disease can easily be mistaken for paramyxovirus and salmonellosis but is usually more acute. Amoxicillin is an effective treatment if instituted early enough. In the human literature, S gallolyticus is developing resistance to tetracyclines and erythromycin, so obtaining a culture before antibiotic administration is ideal.35

A friend of mine added 5 new pair of stock birds to his lofts about 6 weeks ago. He kept them seprate from his birds For three weeks.

Since introducing them into his lofts Wet droppings have appeared and is now out of control .He did try Colimule but does not seem to be working.

The droppings look like pure water with a little brown stick thats what they look like. Some birds are begining to losse weight, its a bit worrying

Does anyone have any ideas or other remedies he could use Thanks

helo mate , ive had this , its adeno coli ! clear wet droppings with a black worm type fecis in the middle , firstly if you havent vaccinated for paramyxo do it now , if this illness is not treated it does lead to nervouse problems in the bird , firstly do not feed them any maize or small seed , and treat them with a 4-1 , 7 days ! then at end of treatment give vito pro combo 2 days then 2 days milton 1 teaspoon to 4 ltrs water , this will clear it up and should stop it spreading ! but keep an eye on any birds that begin stairing in to space as this is signs of paramyxo ! they can get over this but can be carriers hope this helps mate it did mine !! you should spray everything in loft with virkon s !!!

adeno is youngbird sickness and hardly the severity of what is described.

adeno can be green and slimy also can be a yellowish tinge to it.

the lines in the droppings shows there is liver/kidney failure/damage which happens when paramyxo is present.

please look at this !!!!!

Faeces in paramyxovirosis: Formed faecal particles in a water puddle with renal failure. In paramyxovirosis the thin faeces are caused not by a functional disorder of the intestine, but of the kidneys.

If you had contacted vet regarding your problem DEFRA would have visited your loft and gave you advice on containment PLUS within 48 hours you would be visited again to inform you of their results from samples taken. This service is FREE and you are not stigmatised in any way. I write from experience when stock birds had watery droppings, stumbling around, unable to feed,weight-loss and twisting heads {stargazing}.

NO IT WAS NOT PARAMYXO.

i suspect either the birds have had paramyxo and these droppings are after effects or are going through it. heres the picture i think your describing.

they are most probably drinking more water and the actual description of these droppings are caused by slight failure in the kidneys.

pm me if you need advice...

mate ive seen this in a few of my birds recently it seems to me to be wet canker.
