1966 was the worst i remember it was 6ft deep in places in greenock but 2/3 ft was normal every year

the coldest i can remember was 1996 i was working in barlinnie the whole jail froz i never got home for 3 days solid fixing burst pipes it was -23 in glasgow

my taxi the  diesel froze

the engine had ice coming out as the anti freeze was not strong enough lucky there was no damage to the engine

they used to put core plugs in the fords just for that frank they popped 1st remember it well the old mk1 escort core plugs popping all over the place

I A REMEMBER THAT FRANK I HAD JUST TOOK THE WHOLE ROOF OF MY HOOSE THAT WEEK

 

TO PUT ON NEW TRUSSES.   COULDNDT GET THEM UNSTUCK AND HAD TO USE A BLOW TORCH TO MELT THE ICE ON THEM.   tHEN COULDNT CUT THEM WAY THE RIP SAW AS THEY WERE FROZEN THROUGH .  WE WERE STAYING IN THE HOUSE AT THE TIME

AND HADNT LONG MOVED IN.   THE ONLY GOOD THING WAS IT DIDNT RAIN

 

BUT YOU COULD ONLY DO ABOUT HAF HOUR OUTSIDE THEN GO IN FOR A HEAT.

 

WHEN MY JOINERS CHAPPED THE DOOR EVERY MORNING AT 8AM A NEARLY STARTED GREETIN AT THE THOT OF GOING BACK OUT  :'( :'( :'(
