How Do You Find A Good Racing Pigeon?

Hello everybody,

this question and others are asked by many fanciers in the world,firstly how you know that a pigeon,that you bought or.. is a good racer,or they are those who say that this pigeon is a good racer in long distances,when they took another one they say this will not work for long distances,but its good for middle distances...i mean is there any feathers the one have to look at,like body structure,the beak,eye.... how does one tell if a racing homer is a good flyer without beleiving what the seller is saying?

Radouani,you can't but that's only my opinion.If buying a good racer the vender should have prize cards for the bird,young birds need to be raced.How often do we pick out a "super young bird" only for it to fall at the first hurdle.When I pick up my birds I check the body,wing,eye and throat but this is to see the birds have no problems,there are many theories but for me the basket doesn't lie.Having said all that,there are genuine fanciers who have had their families of birds many years and know them inside out and can usually pick a decent bird out with a good chance it will make the grade.

guess the same as most of us do. you can only go by what you fancy

if you fancy them as racers put them in the basket and see,and if you

fancy them as breeders breed from them and see the results,there is

no 100% sure-fire way not in this game.

yes yes yes ,every good bird carries a unique face ,the size and shape and most of all something about it that can only be learned by years of seeing different birds ,you have to try and study all types of birds to make reference ,short and long distance to see the signs some fanciers never notice and some are very good ,i suppose it is all down to keen observation,but yes they are very different from middle of the road types,study birds of great achievments and learn.
