andy Burgess Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 HAVE READ IN A FEW PLACES THAT YOU SHOULD PAIR YOUR BEST COCK WITH YOUR BEST HEN, IS THIS ALWAYS THE SAME OR SHOULD YOU ALLOW THEM TO CHOOSE THERE OWN MATE,S ? :emoticon-0138-thinking:have read it too , and been told it many times , not always easy when starting to know for sure which are your best. have also noted that the best pair seem to choose each other when presented with many options or partners ie put all together and normally best cock and hen will pair first j.m.h.o.
b.massey Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 My opinion would be that I would certainly put my best to best. I pay zero attention to a pedigree. If I like I buy! If they win they breed! When I first went buying it was fanciers name I was after. Never asked for pedigree just wanted the family of birds
lvlasked Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Hey well it was my first year this year and my birds picked there own mates and I had one pair breed me 2 ybs I gave away and they were both had 1st club for that guy and an othe pair bred me 2nd club 45th fed so I dunno but I was happy for my first year ever with pigeons
Guest IB Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I think we are confusing breeding and racing, another thread suggests best racer may not make best breeder. Best breeder IMO is the one that is throwing race winners (at the level of competition you want to be in) with different partners. IMO, if you have a cock and a hen doing that - throwing winners with different partners - it would probably be best to keep both of them 'doing the rounds' with other partners as every year you would be filling the loft with winners, all of whom could be crossed back in to make your own family.
