billt Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 I think one of the big problems is knowing whether the best racers make the best breeders, if we only keep the decent racers and breed from these does that mean we end up with a loft full of decent racers, if only life was that simple
just ask me Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I think one of the big problems is knowing whether the best racers make the best breeders, if we only keep the decent racers and breed from these does that mean we end up with a loft full of decent racers, if only life was that simple think its the only thing we can go on is racing ability well i do it that way
Guest IB Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I split these posts from 'How many chances' thread as I think it is a topic on its own. Didn't think 'How many chances do you give your breeders' was a good title, but it is a good question. Like the thread these posts came off, I think you need to state what kind of racing you are talking about. In Long distance racing for example, your candidate usually needs to be 2 or 3 years old, so I believe you have quite a long time to wait before you can make any judgement on the success of the pair as breeders. In the mean time, I like to change my breeding pairings every year.
REDROCKET Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 watch what other club members are winning with buy somthing different and try to beat them with them and fail this system does not work lol
john cumming Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 i try to pair winner to winner if possible, and over the years have tried to aquire birds from fanciers who have been at the top winning consistently and then find a system that suits the birds and myself, easier said than done??has taken a few years to build a team the to challenge consistantly? too many fanciers in my opinion expect success soon as they have a winner or have bought in birds from proven stock, it takes time john :emoticon-0137-clapping:
