It's been a busy two weeks down at the allotments helping out my mate.

Stock loft now done, now it's down to building the race loft.

Floor down, Back and sides up, front framework done, now time to assemble the boxes and build the partitions. The entrance to this loft will be from the rear.

Birds should be in by end of next week, just inside to finish and a few coats of preservative on the outside and that should be us done. Then I'm building a stock loft at home for 12 or 14 additional pairs

Hi mate

Looking great, have you built it from scratch or was it a shed/loft already? looks really good a credit to you.

As I'm looking to build a new race loft for youngbirds for next year.

So I'm very interested in your set up and plan layout.

We built it from scratch, but saying that, we did have an advantage of using the wood for the floor sides and back. From two other lofts, with some modifications. Also the nestboxes. But everything else we planned and made from scratch. Using as much reclaimed materials as possible to keep down the cost.

a lot of top flyers say that the best timber to use in your loft is reclaimed timber ;)

We had it all just lying around, so it would have been a shame not use it. Especially the prices they are charging at the moment for wood. The fronts we just made from feather edge boards a hell of a lot cheaper than T&G.

you be surprised how many top fanciers are looking for reclaimed timber if im right davy hunts loft was build with reclaimed timber seen it on one of Ronny bigwoods dvds

I think it's a lot easier to work with and doesn't warp the same.
