hi just recently i have had a couple of young birds that on separate occassions had the same symptoms

1)they go off the food

2)they have a spongy crop with what seems to be water in it and if pressed they seem to gurgle?

3)don't seem bothered by it but wont fly

4)have seen them on a roof down the road picking at the tiles and in the gutter cant get them off there sometimes and it is very annoying as i give minerals grit etc. have seen one or two black droppings sometimes slimy sometimes rough looking? also saw one of them sick and it was also black , i assumed it was out of the gutter and thought well if the body doesn't like it it rejects it just like us. why are they doing this anyway??? the thing is i segregate them in the sick bay on there own and leave them untreated for a few days and they seem to recover ok but i just want to stop it from happening full stop if i can. or know what this may be. any help would be appreciated . Also they dnt have any signs of cancker on the back of the throat or any horrid smells coming from there mouth. its just that spongy crop that gives it away each time . its baffling me.

dont know , but would take a guess at , a lack of something ? maybe minerals that is causing them to search out something , in the form of the gutter contents . which is not doing them any good .best of luck.

Try using black minerals aswell, see if it helps :)

Think it's natural for birds to pick about, but I don't think it's a good thing to let them pick about in the gutter. When I clean the gutters the stuff is black, oily & stinks - I'm no surprised they're sick after eating that. So that's where your problem lies, and my loft gutters are meshed off to keep my birds out, cos I had one or two instances of sickness & weird droppings when they've been in them. Keep them off the roofs too, for the same reason.

very difficult to keep them out of the gutters especially

if u live on a housing estate try giving them mixed grit

and pick stones and keep them in for a week my birds wont

eat red grit young birds will always pick about no matter

what u give them. good luck

been eating the moss off the tiles? put your birds on nystatin oral suspension, 5mls to 2 ltrs water or 2 droplets right down there throats 3 times a day for 3 days.

they dnt go in my gutters as i wont let them . its when i have been trying to stop them landing on my rrof they go to another but seem to be getting that under control with correct feeding and calling them in as soon as they have had ther fly out. its a fine line i have found. also why would they eat moss? they get all the greens they need. i give lettice, parsly, and spinach its good for us so must be good for them. thy eat greens. go mad for eat they do. and the red minerals .i am going to treat them all for a few things before the end of the year and i start to breed then after they have bred does that sound about right. ? thanks for all the input :emoticon-0167-beer:
