OLDYELLOW Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 2 weeks ago on a Monday late night just locked birds up and having a smoke I decided to rest against side fence and finish me smoke i saw a pigeon walking on green at side , so initially I thought it was injured so I walked out of garden to go catch it , but it weren't injured and flew up to side roof , then walked along roof on to corn shed so i went into shed got a handful of corn and caught it on top of roof , then put it in basket with corn and water on Friday been only good day i then took it out of basket and let it go for it only to return on the Saturday morning again homing to corn shed roof and had to catch it again so anyway I returned her back to basket then a friend liberated her near enough on doorstep of home on Sunday , but this pigeon rather than fly the few miles home came home against a head wind back to me . So I called fancier again and told him . What amazed me here was 1 the bird couldn't see out of basket yet returned , was taken near enough home but decided to fly 90 miles back to me rather than a few miles to get home , and yes she homed to top of corn store where i caught her again . Lets see if she returns again tomorrow after been tossed at Hull

mac1 Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 i had yb come in one day done the same as you, straight in the stray basket, this yb belonged say 20 mile away east of me,fancier came for it the next day then the day after that i seen this pigeon heading towards my loft like it was racing straight in the door,it was the yb rang owner he could not beleive it
Guest paulrstokes Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Had a stray brought to us by a non fancier who picked it up off the street. Put it inside a basket inside the corn store, it could not see out, owner fetched it, he lived around 60 miles away. Next day it is back pecking around outside the loft, yet it had never seen our garden. You tell me, backs up the scent theory??

Michael J Burden Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 I have one too. YB with a race rubber on, along with others, fed watered it rested it for 3 days then took it 30 miles, tossed them up. One stood ontop of a car and I had to schoow it up. It flew around clapping with the others. I thought great they are gone. Which was true for all of them but the one I had to schowo up!!!!!!!!!!!She was in the loft upon my return!!! I have taken her single up three times from there and she was home each time. I went to Manchester yesturday and single tossed her there too, North of me by a number of miles. Was she home, you bet she beat me too!! I am not a stray lover and have never kept any ever but I will have to report this one and try to loose her!!! atb

Guest homestead Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 who knows she might be worth a try next year, if you sent her home will the owner want her? we await the outcome she sounds a spirited little thing
Guest charliepigeon Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 I had a Dark Pied Scottish rung hen in, She had no stamp and only 1 ring on she went in the basket with about 7 other strays I think we had 1 red cock from scotland no tel number on he was a lovely pigeon and went well we had 1 from Ireland again no tel number and we had a few more gb rung birds in the end they all went but this Dark Pied Hen was still here she was quite tame and quite a nice bird she would always come and drop on the top of the loft then she would come down on the pigeon troff when we came round with leftovers from the racers and she would stay on the trof then we would go in the garrage and she would be caught and put in the basket this hen had about 10 tosses on her own but never went she looked like she was having a go but she couldent get over she could of been out for a bit, In the end we were on our way up to Newcastle up on tyne to see our mate and on the way we tossed her up in Carslisle and she bomed off and went so hopefully she got home! It's amazing.
REDROCKET Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 I much prefer to get birds back home to where they belong but she's got other ideas , I guess she thinks she is homesounds like she's home to me and happy u should be getting her transferred as she seenms to be happy homing to you and would you expect your own birds to return fromthese single tosses thats a keen healthy homer keep the bird rather than testing it to the extreem jmo atb.
OLDYELLOW Posted August 20, 2011 Author Report Posted August 20, 2011 sounds like she's home to me and happy u should be getting her transferred as she seenms to be happy homing to you and would you expect your own birds to return fromthese single tosses thats a keen healthy homer keep the bird rather than testing it to the extreem jmo atb.transfer is in the post watch it be first bird today , I sent her as a trainer , can hardly test her any other way than that of racing , she does exactly what any bird should do and doesn't rely on the batch to get home this will be first and last race unless transfer comes through by next week then she might go again
