Pigeon fancier's ticking rucksack causes bomb scare at Dunblane train station

Jul 29 2011

A major security alert was sparked when a pigeon fancier's rucksack was left on a train today.

Police were called at around 9am by a railway worker.

It is understood the bag had a timer inside which raised suspicion.

Around five "emergency units" from the Scottish Ambulance Service headed to the scene at Dunblane train station in Stirlingshire this morning.

The rucksack, which sources said belonged to a pigeon fancier, is now in lost property.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "We were contacted with a report of a suspicious package on an empty train. It was reported by a member of rail staff at Dunblane station.

"Officers attended and the package is not suspicious."
