Guest IB Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 It's a 2010 Article JAM, and the replies to it show the strength of feeling for protected status for the Eagle Owl either as a resident or European Visitor to UK. I think there would be an outcry from other conservation bodies if any attempt was made to remove it to protect other BoP species. After all it is law of wild that rules out there - survival of fittest.

hawked again Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 On the same page as the link at the top of this thread you can find this link: http://raptorpolitics.org.uk/2011/07/12/bowland-raptor-report-%e2%80%93-a-report-the-public-are-not-allowed-to-read-or-know-about/#more-4884 They say the Peregrine and Hen Harrier breading was very poor but this is what they said about the Good Owl. Eagle Owl – Surprise, Surprise. Two territories 100 % SuccessfulTwo pairs of eagle owls successfully reared broods of young against all the odds this year. Three owlets fledging from one site and three from the second; a good result. In addition even more good news for once, there have been no rumours of any hen harriers being predated by eagle owls so far. The one major obstacle facing the owlets this year, should any migrate onto adjoining shooting estates their future will be short in this world I am sorry to say.

Guest challengerlofts Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 RSPB's, they're not born yesterday to keep telling to us that we cannot breed and release into the wild. There's already a non-euro eagle's that brought in here in UK, that farmers makes them to worry to keep losing their sheep & chickens. Just wonder, when the last time we heard that an eagle owl, got a complain from farmers. What we should do, as a Pigeon Fancier. We must provide our own system how to protect the Eagle Owls. At least we're unite, how to monitor them. Compare to RSPB's that struggle already & had no idea how many hawks we've got here in UK. They can't just keep ignoring our Protected Song Birds, been eating by Sparrow Hawks.
