The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper failed to make a single Premier League appearance last term and is eager to secure first-team football having turned 35 in April. Given is regarded as one of the best keepers in the Premier League after his exploits with Newcastle and then City, who he joined for £5.9million in January 2009. But Joe Hart's emergence as first-choice keeper for club and country forced Given onto the City bench for most of last season, with the 113-cap international restricted to just four cup appearances. Although Given has two years left on his contract with City, new Villa manager Alex McLeish can offer him a regular starting role. Villa are in the market for a new shot-stopper having seen Brad Friedel depart for Tottenham this summer.

sapper756 Posted July 16, 2011 Author Report Posted July 16, 2011 City eye Aguero & Nasri City chief keen to land pair before end of the month Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has revealed they are hoping to secure a double swoop for Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri by the end of the month. Mancini has indentified Atletico Madrid ace Aguero as an ideal replacement for unsettled star Carlos Tevez and he is also keen on luring Nasri away from Arsenal. Aguero is looking for a new club after revealing his intention to leave Atletico this summer with the player planning to make a decision on his future after the Copa America. The 23-year-old has admitted he would be happy to join another Spanish club or move to England with Real Madrid also in the race for his signature. Mancini is an admirer of Aguero and he believes the Argentine would be a success in the City team if they land him.
