Flyer, the error is in making a complaint, if the rules don't say you can you're stuffed, if the rules don't say the moderator shoul'd be impartial you are also stuffed.

Having said that it would be impossible for Richard to administer the site without the moderators..........they are without doubt an absolute necessity, I acknowledge and accept that I can get out of orderand moderation is sometimes rquired...................however i can't say i like it with some of the personal opinions made by the moderators threads are shut..........for me the moderator is perfectly in order when s/he shuts down a thread when s/he gives the reasons, but when that person then goes on to give a personal opinion whilst shutting down that is I believe  out of order because there is no recourse...............I hope the webaster gives consideration to this I think it is a valid and constructive point. A code of conduct is a must for fairness otherwise the moderator is judge and jury..........

any thread or post that is closed or locked by a moderator is just put in store for the webmaster to deal with, he decides if it is to stay deleted or not. and going by the code of conduct, quote "Posts commemting on or criticizing forum administrative actions will be deleted" so a lot which should be deleted are not,

Not disagreeing with you at all here Fifer but why when 1 of the mods joins in and has a laugh at something thats been posted does another mod then move or delete it???? Which has happened a few times ;)

The Code of Conduct does allow moderation complaint, you are told to contact the webmaster. As stated many times previously, the moderators work is in many cases a joint decision, and those decisions are monitored by the webmaster; he alone has final say and can unlock or return deleted threads to the boards.

What is happening tho is that rather than complain to the webmaster,  another thread is started up, and usually with the twin intentions of abusing the moderator(s) and continuing a slagging match with another member. Slagging matches - 'flame wars' - are one of the main reasons for bringing threads to a close, mostly preceded by a member posting this request in the thread, or in a PM to any moderator, on or off-line. By contrast I note that not one of these threads has ever been posted 'keep this going'.

I note that you say nothing on certain members' continuous personal attacks on the moderators. Are you suggesting that these are beyond comment and should continue? Or are you being impartial?

each mod to his own, if this happens then the mod taking part if he does'nt agree should get in touch with whoever deleted it, it is possible for a mod to be taking part with a thread which is going ok, then a post put on after it which is not on and gets deleted, its not easy, but as i say if one is put off or locked its the webmaster who decides if it was ok or not, and can put it back out again,

I think we all know who you are on about but there is nothing to be done about them. As you say Richard needs help so he is in a bit of a predicament even if he wanted to do something. All I would say is we can all remember the school bully and that in my opinion is what is happening on this forum sometime, you don't agree with their point of view so you have to be dealt with.

Of course we all remember what happened to the school bully eventually!

Bruno, you illustrate my point, you personalise it buy defending moderators and not having the intellect to disassociate yourself and look at the base point. I have no intention of attacking or defending you on this thread, you as a person are irrelevant...........it is the point of principle i wish to make,........... as to whoever it was saying there is a process go to the webmaster, there is no specific process which says how a complaint will be dealt with by the webmaster, natural justice says there should be.

I was not personalising or defending anything - I was explaining the moderating process on this forum, Albear, and stuck to the 'Base point' from your own post:  the common misconception that the moderator was judge and jury.

I agree there is nothing to say how a complaint will be dealt with by the webmaster. But is that really important? The Code of Conduct was a concept born out of members' wishes for certain behaviours to be stopped.  Richard put a lot of time and effort into writing one.  The important point is that if everyone followed that code, then there would be nothing for anyone to complain about.
