Guest IB Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Most pigeon lice treatments contain the active ingredient pyrethrum - which is obviously safe for use on pigeons. If you can't get hold of one, try the local shop or supermarket for an ordinary household fly spray, check for the active ingredient and if it is pyrethrum - its good enough to clear your problem, and probably quite cheap too. Another cheap as chips insecticide is garlic. Have seen a garlic insecticide spray for dogs & cats in local Pet shop. If you have an empty spray bottle, use it to measure water into a jug, crush a whole garlic bulb into it, and tip it into the spray bottle. You can use it to spray birds, nest bowls and other places around the loft. A garlic bulb costs around 30p.
lvlasked Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 thanks ib ill try gave garlic one how long should i let the garlic soak for in the water befor using it ?
Guest IB Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 thanks ib ill try gave garlic one how long should i let the garlic soak for in the water befor using it ? You should be able to use it straight away as crushing the bulb produces the active ingredient (allicin) straight away.
Guest geordiejen Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 quite interested in using garlic in the water to get rid of lice.yous guys who use it regularly does it leave any stains in the feathers? will it promote feather bloom.as i keep fancy pigeons i very rearly let my birds bathe because the first thing they do is lie around where the bath water has sprayed and their is usuall sh** lying close around the bath.birs end up looking dirtier.

joncrack Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 I had the same problem. So i put the bath in the aviary on wire mesh... sorted What size wire mesh did you use for the sorting? Did you just use stainless steel? Something like the 80x80 mesh that they show on this site here? http://www.bwire.com/ Let me know please, may have to take a similar approach in the very near future.
