Guest spin cycle Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 when first of my stock hatched i switched feed gradually fron my basic farm grown corn mix to a proper breeding mix thinking i was doing the right thing. on sat i found a yb dead in nest and just assumed it had been outdone by the larger nestmate....sunday i rung a couple in the raceloft and realised they wern't far behind the older yb ....checked it and didn't think there was alot in crop....thought about it today so i put some tic beans lunchtime...tonight his crop is full to bursting. basically his parents didn't like the breeding mix and would rather starve their ybs than feed it...can't believe it.
lvlasked Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 dam that poor yb died for no reason i hope they rest ok mate and hope everythink else going ok so far this year

gulkie Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 don't like to see a lot of maze if any in breeding mixI use breed and wean and mix in concord and I find my yb strong and robust.
eastcoaster Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 i mix 40%breed& wean 40% breeding 5% barley 5% gem pellets 10% beans then as the come off the milk the beans will increase upto 30%
Guest spin cycle Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 there is alot of maize in the mix ...but that goes and looks like peas are least popular. the only mixed food i buy is yb and occasional breeder....i began to have doubts about the yb feed last year...so looks like i'll be mixing my own this year.
Guest IB Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Agree with observations on maize, too much and they'll throw it everywhere. Also some of it is IMO poor quality - broken grain, the birds won't eat that either.
Guest stb- Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 bg of horse beans bag of barley bag of poultry growers pellets will rear brilliant yb and its not exspencive ,, have tried all the other things but this is the best ive had
