geordie1234 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 How many ybs do you look/hope for to take forward to yearling stage?? I understand many lofts have the luxury of being able to carry over a lot more than others but for the small team flyer how many do you look to take over into the ob loft
blaz Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 i expect to have at least half of my yb, team after last race 216 mile all of which will be kept and raced as yearlings.that includes say a yb that is last evry week. reson had 2 yb,s last evry week as yearlings won 3 races each.

frank-123 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 george you/me/lanarkshire members will be lucky to have half our young bird team left and only out to distance of 150 milesin fact i would say 50% would be a great amount what i would say is don't send all your young birds at once split them into two teams

ovy1255 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 its all to easy to keep too many birds so first decide how many birds your loft can. accomodate then decide if thats too many for your wallet to accomodate .now you have your number replace only on performance.i do think that there is birds for different distances so if you carnt afford it try to pic your distance eg sprint -middle or long, thats my opinion lots of the belgian fanciers think the same and fly only in there distance club.but there are loads of roads to rome-lol.

blaz Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 at the end of old bird season i look at how birds have raced .if birds have raced badly . 1st i look at myself for feeding management ect.then i look at how bird was bred .i also look at how bird raced as yb.if i don,t find good enough reson i then get rid of that bird or birds. taking note of how it was bred.i don,t find very many as when the 1st race starts i don,t let them miss any club races after it.that finds most of them out.if i did not have the space and thought the yb,s was good then it would be offered to other fanciers that have had a bad season with losses .i also bred latebreds in case i need them if i don,t i always know someone or hear of someone that has had a bad season.
