Okitsme Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Hi Guys, Somethings seems to be wrong with one of my chicks legs. When in the nest its legs spread out to the side and it does not look like it can stand on its legs. Its not paralysed as it can still grip with its toes. Anybody have any ideas please? Thanks David

tony austin Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 its called a splayed leg,it often happens when there is only one in the nest.you could tie an elastic band between the two legs,it will help some way,do not tie it to tight as you will cut off the blood supply.some people put a potato in the bowl when there is only one y/b it prevents this happening.atb tony.

lanarkshire lad Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Good Advice. Its often just deformed.Ive seen it with two in nest also.
Guest Owen Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 I am sorry to say but your bird will never amount to much. I think it best to get rid of it and let the parents rear the other as a single youngster. The single youngster will have the benefit of being well reared while the other will be a wast of their effort.
kirky Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 sorry but by the time you notice it, its too late and will not go back stright.
Okitsme Posted January 21, 2011 Author Report Posted January 21, 2011 Thanks for the advice guys. What I have done is moved it into a nest with another youngster to see if it will improve. If it does not then I will take if from there. Thanks again. David
