Has anyone cresoted inside there lofts at all.

Its actually cresote substitute but am considering staining all my wooden floor grills but wondered if anyone else had done similar before?

yes :)  done it twice a year in the past ,, looked a little drab,, but done the birds no harm, and i believed it was a healthy way to treat the inside of the lofy

but wondering what the creasote substitute was, or contained,, i also beleived the birds rested in the loft better ,,,than a snow white interier >:(

vallance i always cresote my loft floors  but do not put birds in for a week  scrap it out first  then i put belg white down

I have the grills out now for the next week or so whilst im changing things around hence thinking about doing it as they would have maybe 10 - 14 days to dry out properly.

One of my canary breeding friends used to say creosote was also a good way to prevent red mites, not sure how true this is

For our third round we placed a blob of cresote on a beer mat under the nest bowl - think he's right

ma dad swore by creosote for total eradication of any parasites in the loft, but i dont know wether the substitute will have the same effect, i know from experience that when creosote gets on your skin it burns so i guess this is what it does to loft pests also when racing finished he would pour some into a nest bowl and fill it with beer mats to soak it up over the winter and then when breeding started he would place the soaked mats under their nest bowls to keep red mite and other pests at bay

my brother is a keen canary shower /breeder  and uses creasote only on the floor in summer with plenty ventilation creasote will kill mite..,, but his canary hut is painted a pale blue,, also their rules state that the show boxes are pale blue inside,, the reason for this was,, as birds see colour different to us,, this pale blue is seemingly used to keep the birds calm ,and as stress free as poss. for this reason i allways had the inside of my w,hood lofts  this colour :) ,, and the same colour blinds,,,if needed >:(  the difference in their rest period was quite  obvious  as i had a camera in the loft ,,and a moniter in the kitchen ,, where i could see them at perfect peace :),,,,,,,,,,untill the doors opened ;D

it is extremely difficult to obtain the real creosote now , most places only sell the substitute which is nowhere near as good, in fact it is a waste of money, but the original is still obtainable if you know where to get it  ;)

The substitute has served its purpose for us especially with our fence which has had nothing on for 15 years it now looks as good as new - we built a flight today and also used it on that and it looks good.

I do agree about the proper stuff but the substitute at £6.99 a tub from Wilkos aint done a bad job.

On another note thanks for all the replies has anyone got any negative issues with the grills being cresoted i dont want to do them and encounter problems from it.

i think if i get the grills done maybe two weeks till they go back in bearing in mind they can be well aired
