Been looking around ebay, and they sell many herbs ect that you will find in many pigeon teas however what do you feel are important ingredients in pigeon teas?

Posted

i like the pigeon teas helps to cleans the bird and makes them spongey , to know which herbs are important id have to enlist a herbalist , but theres certainly benifits to giving birds tea and helping promote good health and good downfall :)

Hi Wiley, before this lad took the job on the previous lad was Raymond Ingrham who lived about 4 mile away from me,several of the top fanciers in this area were regular users.I have been to Gary's and find him very helpfull, one of his products that I rate highly especially during YBS is bitter stimulant powder.

Make your own mind up on his products but I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Lindsay.

I've always been interested in herbs. When I first started up, B&R did a pigeon tea - Dufky Pigeon Tea, A blend of selected herbs and plants, each of which has a specific therapeutic action - that listed the ingredients. I had a look back then and this is what they did:-

Composition:

Wormwood - helps fortify, inhibit infection, stimulant, improves digestion, vermifuge-expels intestinal worms.

Tansy (Tanacetum)- helps improve digestion, vermifuge-expels intestinal worms.

Bramble - helps fortify and purify the blood

Nettle - said to be an anti-anaemic and blood purifier

White Dead Nettle - reputed to inhibit inflammation

Yarrow - eases cramp and fortifies

Marigold Petals - a laxative and eases cramp

Hazelnut - purifies the blood

Caraway Seed - improves digestion

Garden Sage - inhibits inflammation

Sarsaparilla - slight laxative with general purificative action

St. John's Wort - inhibits infection, calmant action, vermifuge-expels intestinal worms

Thyme - fortifier, inhibits infection, stimulates appetite, vermifuge-expels intestinal worms, eases cramp

Plantain - purifies the blood, emollient

I used Dufke and liked it. B&R don't do it now.

The latest one I see on the market is Verm-X, does intestinal parasites. Too expensive for my liking, and 6 days treatment seems OTT to me. One of the biggest surprises was it contains a common weed which we in Scotland call Sticky Willies, because when you brush past it it sticks to your clothes. Verm-X contains:-

galium aperine - sticky willies. Leaf.

capsicum minimum - cayenne

cinnamomum zelandicum - cinnamon

ulmus fulva - Slippery Elm

thymus vulgaris - thyme

mentha piperita - peppermint

allum sativum - garlic

My latest project is my own herb garden. Have cleared ground in back garden where birds pick about, have found a website that sells medicinal herb plants, reckon pigeons will eat what they want, so no more need for teas.

And I've stuck with one herb - garlic - ever since I discovered its range. Hoping to try out a new garlic product in the new year.

You got it wrong, read the post again,I said I was plagued with bad health not the pigeons.Your money you please yourself what you do with it.

I'm just one person who has used Spavins herbs there are plenty of lads locally winning and using Spavins herbs.

Where abouts do you fly your birds.
