Guest Freebird Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 O.K. guys, just recieved this info and it is not a JOKE. This could save your life!!! *NOT A JOKE*Valuable Piece of information - Pass it on - Please ***************************************** Let's say it's 5 .15pm and you're going home (alone of course), after anunusually hard day on the job. You're really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts todrag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five milesfrom the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don't know if you'llbe able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy thattaught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself. HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, withouthelp, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feelfaint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and veryvigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the coughmust be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside thechest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-upuntil help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normallyagain. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze theheart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heartalso helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims canget to a hospital. Tell as many other people as possible about this. It could save their lives. A cardiologist says If everyone who gets this mail sends it to 10 people, you can bet that we'll save at least one life. Guest IB Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 There was an earlier email offering similar advice on identifying a Stroke victim:- "I thought that it might be helpful to others to post some of the warning signs of a stroke and what to do if you suspect that someone around you is having a stroke. I remember reading this a while ago and while I had to look it up, parts of it did stick: F.A.S.T. – an acronym to identify a potential stroke victim. F- FACE – Ask the person to smile, if their smile is lopsided that may indicate stroke. Ask them to stick out their tongue. If they cannot do this or have difficulty doing this, again seek medical attention. A-ARMS – Ask the person to raise both arms. Inability to move both sides of the body simultaneously may indicate stroke. S-SPEECH – Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence. Often stroke victims cannot speak, their speech is slurred or they are unable to remember the words to repeat. These are all indications of a potential stroke. T -TIME – Time is of the essence when someone is experiencing a stroke. Note the time that the symptoms started to appear and immediately call for medical assistance."
