Guest monkeynuts71 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 After weeks of waiting and delays from the snow my loft finally arrived today. I have to say a big thankyou too blakes. They arrived at 10 am in cornwall yes thats cornwall the bit past bristol. and by 11:30 the loft was up perches in and they were off again. I have to say they did an excellent job. just cant wait to get started now. I would also like to say a big thankyou too thunderboult and chichi for the help the have given me. I would also like to thank the people who have offered to breed me some pairs of youngsters. I would also like to thank my mum, dad the producers that made the film happen ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D seriously i would like to thank everyone for there help and advice, its a great sport to be in and long may it continue :) :) It has 30 yb perches,12 boxes for old birds next year, 6 boxes for stock birds. also the view out the doors towards launceston which i hope my birds will arrive from. hopefully tomorrow i will be building an aviary for the stock birds. Thanks
newbold Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 verry nice mate, i personly would have nest boxs a bit higher, but it looks great
frank-123 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 great set up mate you can see for miles sure the birds will enjoy that loft well done
Guest spin cycle Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 very nice indeed and very nice setting ( bit like mine)....is that the sea in the distance or just the horizon? looks like you can get the car right up to the loft ( very handy). do you need to fix it down against the wind ? ...all the best 'jealous jim'
pjc Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 looks great, as Phil says build a frame under the nest boxes and lift them as high as you can then fill in under boxes to stop birds nesting under there!
thunderboult Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 it looks a lovely loft tristan, few birds in there now and your ready to go.
p charlton Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 look nice all the best. blakes must have loads on and not want the work i phoned them the other week they were not at intrested in what i wanted

gangster Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 same at the eaves rolled up chicken wire will keep other unwanted guests...going off your countrieside location...

sapper756 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Very neat loft m8, hope it brings you a lot of success
Guest mikkey Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 nice loft m8, i got mine from blakes last year, its as dry as a bone, cheap enough too, not like some of the other quotes i had
Guest monkeynuts71 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 i wanted to put the boxes higher and screw them to the back but they are from red star and weigh a ton so i just did that for the time being. as i dont have any old birds yet i have a few months to sort that bit out. no its not the sea. the sea is behind the loft and about 25 miles if that. you can see it on a clear day from the bedroom window. hoping it will work out ok. i, well pleased with it i have to say. i ordered it at blackpool and there was a few they had to do. i still have my traps to fit on it. gangster you say about the eves. what should i do? tomorrow im making wire mesh doors to go behind the doors to help keep any mice out as the field next door at harvest time is a nightmare. is there any other bits i should do? On the front right under the roof where there a gap im putting plywood and it can get very windy here and worried the wind will rip the roof off. A friend with a digger is dropping off a load of topsoil to bring the front level and so there not such a big gap underneath. there is a big male newfoundland out on patrol so i hope he keeps any unwanted intruders away. but how do i guard against foxes? Thankyou ant its very much appreciated, and thunderboult cant wait to get the birds in. thought about sleeping in it :) :) well worth the wait
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 cracking loft mate i hope you do well from it all the best in 2009
Peckedhen Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 That looks the bees knees. My loft is very exposed to wind too....the felt ripped off in the first bad storm, so now I have planks of wood with huge stones on top holding the whole lot down and have not had any problem since.
steve d Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Get some 3 inch L brackets mate and go round and attach the roof to the front , back, sides, mate. As you say it gets windy were you are it will help keep roof were it should be, hope this makes sense. Were about in Cornwall are you mate I love the place. ;)
Guest monkeynuts71 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 near launceston. not the nicest of towns but a short drive and you can be in some beautiful places. thanks for the tips thunderboult has just told me the same,so im going to get the brackets tomorrow. its going to take a bit of tinkering but im pleased, its a good start
steve d Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Been on the Steam railway there mate, think it runs through Kensey Valley, I liked it around there. ;)
Guest wattle Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 love the loft great job, nice few for the pigeons aswell, put half inch wire on all the air vents inside the loft it will keep out mice and stouts
Frazer Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Very nice tristan perhaps we can can give some of those old boys down here a run for thier money in the next few years.Got mine about a month ago from blakes pretty pleased with it,i put a galvanised roof on mine bit expensive but worth every penny. Its also well worth driving some steaks in deep round the loft and bolting them to it saving me sleepless nights when it blows a gale down here which it does quite often as you well know happy flying mate
OLDYELLOW Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Very nice loft hope you have many winner in it in the future
