Tony C Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Good luck to those that chase averages & well done to those that win em but they're not for me.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Are averages important?I suppose no but in my relatively short time racing the doos have found 8 or 9 times out of 10 it the BEST fanciers that win them
Guest the gers Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 when there is 40 members sending over 1000 birds in our club ever week my aim is to win the club 1st then if i win anything else its a bouns.
Guest big slim Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I try to win anything there is to win be it short races, long races, old birds or young birds. This year we won Fed OB average, Fed OB points, and runner up Fed combine average. Delighted, as there are a lot of top flyers in Pentland Fed.
blaz Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 i think averages are a good thing .if you plan at start of season to aim for them you need to have a good competitive team .so as you are competitive from the 1st race to the last.how many of us have thought that their is not much chance of winning them going in to last race.i myself will only try for o/b averages if my federation goes with national birds like in 2009.did not go with national birds in 2010 .so did not try to win averages in club even tho i was in the lead for them going in to last race maidstone (disaster 15 birds home on day).would i have been lucky enough to add to the 15 home on day will never know.lots of good birds lost at that race by fellow club and fed members .glad i did not send also felt bad for them that lost good birds so the o/b average was won by FED TOPPER WELDONE .
budgie Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 If any club/fed has a points trophy then the format John has given above has to be the best for fairness, this gives the short/long distance fanciers a more equal opportunity to win it, rather than having a sprint fancier winning it because he took the first 10 positions in the fed from a 70 race whilst flying to a good location and with a helping prevailing wind.Big Yin get aff the Backs of one of the best fanciers in Britain.
hotrod Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 i dont think the average cup means anything (well not anymore) as others have said u could win 9/10 races and get a disaster and not be lucky enough to get one and the guy that has been using a callander to time in( is lucky enough to get a bird ) wins the average cup , the fairest way is a points trophey and like jas's feds way is fairest of all in my opinion , oh and jade i have won club and fed averages more than most . the way i do it now is either dont send one race or dont go with my clock one race and then i dont have to send because im winning/leading the averages, because good birds get lost chasing averages. PS NATIONAL AVERAGES IS A DIFFERENT ANIMAL .
