Jacobasmith Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Hello, Me and my dad have recently started designing a loft instead of converting a large rabbit hutch, which was our original plan. How could i build a trap? And also, what equipment is needed in a loft? and where do i get it from/ how do i build it? thankyou, any help would be truly appreciated as i am looking forward to getting into this sport.
DAVIDL Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 hi jacobasmith, if you are just getting in to the sport the easiest thing to do is buy a cheap garden shed and alter it to house your birds in.....you dont really want tp go to a lot of expense as you may decide you are not cut out for keeping pigeons so therefor you wont waste a lot of money. if you are starting with a few young birds you will need some box perches, a water drinker, a feeding tray and maybe some pots for grit/minerals..... there might come a time when you will need to build another loft if you get to like pigeon keeping, or you can divide the shed into two to house ybs and obs and then you will need nestboxes for them to raise their young...... hope this is of help to you....
Guest Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 there are some good things on ebay at the moment http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/?_nkw=pigeon+loft+perches&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_odkw=pigeon+loft+items&_osacat=0 hope that helps

Jacobasmith Posted June 22, 2009 Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 Its not really a shed, basically a small loft. 5'x3'x3'high includes a 3'x3' enclosed section with 2 or possibly 4 nest boxes, and also a 2'x3' wire mesh section partly roofed.

Roland Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Wouldn't buy a shed and convert.... too dear for starters., flimsy wood and never how you want etc. A. a demolishion site willl give you stacks of decent season wood.... or very very cheap. Secondarily I say the best is to see a fellow in Plastic Cladding. 6 metre strips a foot wide. Build a frame as you wish. Decent size now mind. Bolt or screw if you ever want to move it. and cover with plasti sheeting. You can also get the air vents along the bottom. Remember if you wish to interchange solid for Vents at any time you can for tempreture reasons.

Won't better. easy manageable. Hire a long wheel base van / flat truck and get over there pronto.
