Well bigman, why don't you do something about it, ring your secretary and ask him if he would arrange for various ets companies to come along over the winter months and have some demonstrations, you can then give some constructive opinions.

What I will say, if you could take all the good points from each system, you would have a very good system. Unikon has 99 % of them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

who are the agents for bricon

Not sure who would be up your way but if you ring Mark Palmer on 01213581267 he will put you right on anything you want to know about the Bricon system.

unikon is the worsted system as there is all wise something wrong with it.

I have 25 members on the Unikon system for two seasons and apart from the odd user error it has worked fine.

I use it in conjunction with EastCoast Software Race program which electronically downloads all race data into the computer and also works out Points ,Averages. Imports and assigns RPRA Email distances per member and also prints diplomas.  At least I, as Secretary, get something out of ETS

The biggest headache with all ETS systems is the assigning of rings, but once that is done the system is a godsend especially at race marking, no more race sheets to make out, and no more markers errors. Mind you with three copies of everything, marking and race printout, we're using an awful lot of paper.

The members are not frightened of it anymore and are quite happy to help out with the administrative side.

So far only one fancier has stated he has experienced 3 types of ETS. Is there anyone else with experience of using several systems, that is info I'd be pleased to hear about. It looks like awards for all is out the window at the mo for RPRA clubs, so I think a few of us in our club  will probably get together and purchase the system that is as good as but the cheapest. Bricon was my preferred choice but it seems Taurus is as good, with differet small issues but I think a bit cheaper. Like Andre any help would be welcome.

I have had a Bricon for three seasons now and I am very happy with it. In my Club there were two Unicon. I don't know if they have to take all the birds to the Club these days to enter them onto the System. But I know that they used to. I found that a real bind.

The one improvement that is needed with all of them is the ability to transfer the results onto a monitor as the clocks are scanned. This would save the Secretary a job and would be great entertainment. It would also provide an opportunity to involve non-fanciers because the results could be flagged up in a public place which would be a wonderful way of creating excitement for lots of people. The main agent for Bricon in the UK is Mark Palmer from Brum. And in fairness to him, I have to say that when we were learning the system Mark was the sole of patients.

The one thing that I would say to help new ETS owners, is to avoid complicated trapping systems. All I have is a landing board outside the loft extending to a second landing board inside the loft. They are at the same level. The pad is under the inside board. By using a few peanuts as a bribe my cocks will drop straight out of the air onto the inside board. There is no way on earth that you could trap any quicker. And after all that is what it is about.

Unikon for me mainly because its robust esp the pads, i have 5 on at the moment and nothing is missed, the rings are well made too.

Have noticed at my mates who have another make his cables get hot along with the pad, he has had problems with pin connections etc, it just doesnt look man enough to me.

have worked with Unikon, Tauris and Bricon (briefly)

Unikon someone with the IQ of 39 could work it. Tauris has many benefits but the process is just a little more difficult when in race mode at the club, but with experience this not a problem and is just as quick. Bricon's main fault for me is that the hole for the leg to enter is at the same side as the screen so is a little awkward at club level when marker and checker at working at the same side of the table.

All do the same job so get the one that your club mates have got as it makes the secretary's life that little bit easier.

PS

Just my opinion.
